Amazon is an amazing platform for selling products, but it can also be tricky to navigate. If you are looking sell on Amazon, here are a few tips to help you get started.



1. Understand the “Buy Box”

You know when you head to Amazon, find the product you want and there’s a yellow “Add to Cart” button? That is the coveted “buy box,” the button where 90 percent of all Amazon sales go through. It is where you want to be when it comes to Amazon!

The first step to getting to be the retailer behind the buy box is to become a designated professional seller. Once you are a professional seller approved by Amazon, make sure the item in question is in stock and then click the “Buy Box Eligibility” button in your professional sellers account.

2. Know What Contributes to Search Rankings

Just like Google or any other search engine, Amazon has an algorithm that determines how results are listed after someone goes looking for an item. In general, there are four major components to whether you hit that top spot or end up on the next page:


• Price: this includes the list price and shipping costs.

• Competing offers: in short, the more sellers there are the more you are competing for that top spot.

• History: the longer you’ve been a seller, the better chance you have of hitting the top spot.

• Reviews: good reviews help you climb the ranking. Bad ones can drop you down.

3. Help Raise Your Search Rankings with Two Quick Tricks

For anyone just starting out, amassing a lot of positive reviews and simply having a history with Amazon will be tricky, so it’s better to focus on these two quick tips for elevating your search ranking when starting out on Amazon.

First, offer competitive pricing on a popular product. If you have something that’s popular and can be taken down to very low pricing, do so. This will help you sell more at the start and the low pricing will help you get on that first page of results.

Second, make sure some of your inventory is niche. With fewer similar products on Amazon, people will only have a few sellers who stock it. That means you can show up in those searches more often and help build your reputation as a seller. Plus, customers searching for niche items are usually more inclined to leave reviews.

4. Get into FBA

Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) is a program where Amazon has some of your inventory to help aid in their speedy delivery. Amazon prefers people who use FBA and it will help your customers get their products faster, leading to better reviews.
